One of my Facebook friends had an update that talked about how well things were going. At the end of it they said “God is good.” And while I do not disagree with their statement, it did make me think. I am always ready to talk about how awesome God is during the good and prosperous times; however, would I be as quick to talk about how good God is during the lean times or struggles in life?
I mean I get upset with God when minor issues come about in my life or when a prayer is not answered. If I get frustrated with smaller things like that, I wonder how I will be able to handle suffering and persecution as talked about below. So I leave us with a couple of Bible verses to chew on while thinking about how great our God is and how this is true during the awesome times… and the not.
My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees.
Your instructions are more valuable to me than millions in gold and silver.
“Write this letter to the angel of the church in Smyrna. This is the message from the one who is the First and the Last, who was dead but is now alive:
“I know about your suffering and your poverty—but you are rich! I know the blasphemy of those opposing you. They say they are Jews, but they are not, because their synagogue belongs to Satan. Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. The devil will throw some of you into prison to test you. You will suffer for ten days. But if you remain faithful even when facing death, I will give you the crown of life.
“Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. Whoever is victorious will not be harmed by the second death.”
